Netball centre seeks volunteers

Howick Pakuranga Netball Centre (HPNC) are part of a pilot programme with Netball New Zealand
and Cadbury (NNZ’s official volunteer partner) to develop capability and management of volunteers
HPNC has relied on volunteers throughout its 57 years to run programmes, game days and general organisation.

With time now a luxury in many people’s lives, volunteer work is declining.  However with the support of Cadbury and NNZ, HPNC wants to reinvigorate that space.

HPNC’s Robyn Garner said, “There are many areas where volunteer help can benefit the netball centre and make a difference from providing behind-the-scenes assistance to fronting activities and programmes.

“With so many current and past members living locally, HPNC is hoping to increase its volunteer numbers.

“Volunteer time can be accommodated whatever a person can give – there are many tasks that require a few hours such as filing, sorting uniforms and gear, small maintenance jobs, gardening etc to more regular time commitment such as helping on game days.”

In addition to assisting HPNC it is anticipated that these times become fun and social.

“No matter what time a volunteer can give, HPNC would be keen to hear from you,” Garner said.

HPNC will play host the annual Upper North Island Secondary Schools (UNISS) Tournament in early September with up to 120 colleges participating.

“It is a wonderful tournament showcasing great ability at this level and volunteers will be wanted.”
