Author and award-winning journalist Ivan Agnew has died.

He was 81. Ivan resided at Bruce McLaren Retirement Village in Howick with his wife Jill. The couple have two daughters, Leonie and Donna.

He died unexpectedly last night following a short illness.

Ivan Agnew’s memory for all things sport was exceptional and his writing was the same.

Ivan was sports editor and a columnist at Howick & Pakuranga Times for many years and continued writing his weekly sports column Agnew’s Angle well after he unplugged his PC at the Times.

The Times will publish a fuller tribute next week. The team at the Times extends its condolences to Jill and the girls and their families.
